Member Bio
I earned my Technician class license in November of 2020 and my General on Feb. 14, 2021. My background is tech and I have had friends who are in the hobby over many years and I finally decided to join them during COVID. Also, during the beginning of the pandemic I had nothing better to do so I created my own email server, web server and FTP server. I also do SQL database design and programming for fun. Yes, I am a geek but not totally: I also love playing and coaching sports and I got my first ace in golf on May 31, 2021 :-).
I grew up in Brooklyn, NY. I have degrees in Computer Science (B.S.), Human Resource Management (Graduate Certificate) and Law (Juris Doctor magna cum laude). I am an attorney living in the Ann Arbor, MI area and I am married to the wonderful Kate. We have a wonderful pack of dogs and three beautiful Percheron horses.
My humble shack features an IC-9100 “shack-in-a-box”, an LDG AT-1000ProII Autotuner (one of the best things I acquired in this hobby), an MFJ-299 mic, MFJ-4275MV and TekPower TP30SWI power supplies and Windows 10 and Lubuntu PCs. My antenna is an ULTIMAX DXtreme 88′ end fed antenna. I run two amps: a Heathkit SB-1000 linear tube amp and an ALS-500M solid state amp (depending on the band). I recently got a Raspberry Pi hotspot working so I am exploring DMR (and I can hit the local DMR repeater as well). I recently added a bhi Dual In-Line Noise Eliminating Module; I don’t know how I ever did phone without it. I also added a headphone amplifier.
You can often find me on worked-all-states nets (I am the President of, and a certified NCS for, USTNET), FT-8 and FT-4. I also traffic some local repeaters on UHF and VHF. I am a member of OMISS, USTNET, Wolverine Single Sideband Net, ARROW Communications Association, YL System, and the Livonia Amateur Radio Club.
