Member Bio
QRZ has my FCC name (Charles), but I also go by the nickname for my middle name (Richard) which is Dick or DJ. Any of the above work just fine. I was licensed as a General operator, June 2021. I really didn’t get going on HF until late August. My current HF rig is a Yaesu FTdx10, backup and portable rig is a Xiegu X6100, 10 watts max. When necessary, I can use a 100 watt Xiegu XPA125B amplifier with the X6100. My 2m and 70cm rig is an AnyTone 578. Antennas vary because of the HOA that I live in. Mostly I use a Wolf River Coils TIA vertical, or sometimes a home made 63 ft EFHW strung from my flagpole to an oak tree. I do have to take that down when the HOA Nazis are about. I also use a TN07 My GO2 antenna for portable operations and a Chameleon Tactical Delta Loop as an NVIS antenna. My 2m and 70cm antenna is a Comet GP1 up about 10 feet. I love working HF and am also a member of the Lake Monroe Amateur Radio Club.
I first became interested in Ham radio back in the early 70’s and did obtain my Novice ticket (WN4DYT) Because of work and newly born daughters, I did not pursue it any further and did allow my Novice license to expire. Since I am now retired, I decided to get back into the hobby. I passed my Technician exam in March of 2021 and my General exam in June. I am now studying for my Extra exam.
The picture of me and my wife (Donna) was taken on our last Harley-Davidson Fly-and-Ride trip out west. It was taken at the Four Cornors where Utah, Colorado, Arizona and New Mexico meet. We visited Colorado, New Mexico, Utah and Arizona and rode over 2,000 miles before returning the motorcycle to the dealer in Grand Junction, Colorado.
My current contact map as of March 8, 2022 is below:
I also enjoy hunting Parks on the Air:
I’ve also been fortunate enough to earn QRZ’s World Radio Friendship Award in the short time I’ve been a General operator.
