Member Bio
Got my Amateur license in May of 1979 and call sign VE3KUZ, worked primarily 10 and 2 meters bands. Worked 192 countries, all continents all states and all provinces with a Yeasu FT-101EX and a 6 element long yagi. Got married in 1985 to my XYL Kimberly. Went QRT for 35 years. In April of 2020 I started playing with online SDR receivers and this peaked my interest in amateur radio again. So I dug out the old Yaesu FT-101EX. The radio needed to be completely pulled apart and cleaned, recapped and adjusted. It is working again and I have made quite a few contacts on all the HF bands that it has. I am currently using a fan dipole similar to the SRI design for 80, 40, 20, 15 and 10 meters up at 52 feet. My interest is in SDR(software defined radio) because I have been in IT since 1993, so I ordered the parts and built my own SDR transceiver. It is fully functional but only ouputs 10 mW on transmit so I may use it for WSPR. I use a modified SB220 linear amplier for the HF bands 80, 40, 20 15 and 10. I plan on upgrading the 20 to 6 meter antenna to a hex or spiderbeam in the spring of 2021.I recently purchased an ICOM IC-7300, samlex power supply and Daiwa SWR power meter. I am really enjoying the IC-7300 and need to investigate all its features including digital modes. I also enjoy designing new antennas using MMANA-GAL basic software. This is my latest 40m Antenna on top of the tower, the fan dipole can be seen just below. I used the design elements derived from this page to construct the antenna –> https://n6pet.com/taktenna-antenna-project/ |
