Member Bio
Hello,
I am a relatively new-ish ham radio operator.
I was a field radio operator in the Marine Corps back in the 80s, But I never actually got into ham radio until 2013.
Getting my amateur radio license was something I have wanted to do my entire life, but for various reasons, I continually put it off.
Finally it dawned on me that I need to get this done. I buckled down, and spent the summer of 2013 studying for my licenses.
I got my Technician and General licence in September 2013. Just in time for me me to go on vacation to Hawaii and make my first contact from the top of Mauna Kea by the Keck Observatory. No kidding..
I came back from vacation and got to work studying for my Extra license. And after a few months of blood sweat and a beers, I passed that too.
My HF rig is a IC-7200. My antenna is a Wolf River coil vertical, and a Multi-band Par End-Fedz wire antenna hanging off a 50′ carbon fiber mast.
My 2m/70cm rig is a FTM-6000R. My 1.25m rig is an Alinco DR-CS25.
I run a Comet CX-333 antenna outside, and a have a Comet GP-3 in my attic.
Not really a contester. I am just now staring to reach out and see what this setup can do.
