Member Bio

10/16/2020: Previous callsign was KC1FVU.

I started back in to ham radio in 2014, after a decades-long hiatus (I was licensed back in the early 80s as a novice). I have been somewhat active on 2M and 70CM, but I’m hoping to expand my activities to everything else that my General Class license will allow, as soon as I can get a decent antenna set up. Meanwhile, I am starting to become active with digital FM. Things have changed a lot since the 1980s! .

On November 10th, 2021, my brother and Elmer Peter Cantara KI1M passed away. My goal is to carry on his tradition of dedication to the Amateur Radio Service by putting more time into learning and operating.

My present setup is a Yaesu FT-991A connected to a Palomar Bullet EFHW for HF, and a Browning dual-band vehicle mount for UHF/VHF. That will soon be replaced by a Diamond X-200 dual-band. I have several Yaesu HTs and a a Yaesu FTM-400D primarily for YSF (the 400 is connected direct to my computer for WIRES-X),  and a Yaesu FT-500D in the car with a dual-band whip. I also use my iPhone to access EchoLink.
