Hello Guys
I’m new to Ham Radio. I’ve got quite a bit to learn, lot’s of experiments to do. So far I have mostly played with two meter. The nets are cool and all but I’m kind of disappointed that two meter seems to be repeater only with little or no traffic other than that.
Perhaps HF will be different. We shall see.

Sep 24 2023 Update.
Okay HF is better than two meter. There is qiute a bit traffic on HF.
I made a contact in Canada on 40 meters. My first contact out of the states.
Using an Alinco DX-70 with a wire dipole made out of 17 gauge aluminum wire.
32 ft 8 inches per side, SWR 1.7 on 40 meters. The antenna is horizontal and situated north/south and it seems to pick up mostly stations north and south.

Added a home made coax balun to the home made antenna. I got the SWR down to 1.4 on 40 meters. Oddly enough it’s now also resonant on 15 meters at about 1.9. I made my first contact in Europe. A station in wales (it’s logged) on 15 meters. A good day.
Still no go on 20 meters. SWR is over 5. May just run a seperate wire for 20.
