Im a brand new amateur radio user, got my license in December 2021, got my Baofeng as my 1st radio. Was involved in the CB craze of the 1970’s. Had a Tram Titan D201 as my base station and another Tram in the car. That all was good until I joined the USAF and put my CB days to the side.
Served in the Air Force as an Emergency Medical Technician then Combat Medic. Definately opens your eyes to a lot of things. God Bless our veterans!! After retiring from the military I worked as a GS Employee and retired this time from the Department of Defense in 2021. That gave me 37½ years total service to our country, what an experience!.
So with all this extra time between the ever growing “honey-do” listing I decided to give Amateur radio a look. Took the test for technician and passed with a 90%. They offered to take the general test, I didnt know that was an option, took the test, missed general by 5 questions. Figured that would give me some time to understand the nuances of the tech world and can study for general.
Well its official, Now a General radio operator!! Thanks to the Greater Los Angeles Amateur Radio Group for offering me the chance to test, Signed up for a test on 3/7/22, tested on 3/8/22… Cant beat that!!! onto big and better things…. HF here we come!!
Yaesu FT 890 as my “new” rig, and end fed up there for an antenna. Gotta few tweeks to the setup to get some optimal send and receive.
