Fellow WSJTX users, please note there is a known issue in WSJTX where it assumes a call area (KL7/WL7/NL7/AL7) is always Alaska.  Even if you enter a valid Grid into the program it still tries to report me as AK, not TX.  This problem effect hams in PR and other locations that have this fixed info in the program.  So if you look me up anywhere else it shows the correct location as TEXAS, not ALASKA.  The folks developing the next release of WSJT will need to change this internal programming code to correct it.  There is nothing I can do to get it to work.  Do a little research on WSJT-X and incorrect location reports.  It will tell you there is an issue in the CTY.DAT file the program uses.  Thats where the KL/WL/NL/AL call area rule kicks in.  Since I am not a programmer or part of the development team for the program there is nothing I can do to fix this.

The FCC dropped the rule forcing us to change our calls when we move to a new call area back in 2000 I think, so I have no legal reason to change my callsign just because I now live in Texas.  There are lots of Alaskan calls living in the lower 48, just like there are callsigns from PR in the lower 48.  All prefectly legal.

WSJT I suspect was in development prior to this rule being dropped.

If your unhappy about this I encourage you to contact those who manage the WSJT program not the end users.

A little history of my Amateur Life.

In 2004 I was first licensed as KL1PL, upgraded to General not 
long after and the vanity call KL7YK was assigned.
Lived in Alaska from 1982 until 2024, 42 years was 
enough of the cold and snow. Age and health, you get the idea.
While living in Anchorage I managed two stations, my own and a club 
station on JBER (Military Rec Station) KL7AIR/KL7USA.  
Look those calls up for info.

Did phone, digital and even a bit of CW from Alaska. 
Now its time to do the same from Texas.  Hope to work you soon.
Current station setup as follows:
FTDX10 HF radio, 250 Ft Loop at 25 feet and an old military 33 ft vertical. 
 Also station is setup to operate on 6m, 2m, 1.25m, 70cm and 33cm.

I have earned both WAS and DXCC thru ARRL as well as WPX from CQ Magazine.

Loop circles the house in the Oaks, total wire length about 250 feet. Not level as the trees are shorter in the back yard.  Adverage height above ground is 25 feet.

Bucket is hail protection for the LDG Remote Tuner at the base.  Feedline and radials are buried.

Running Mobile I have a Yeasu FT-857D on a Larry’s Antennas KJ7U Standard 160-6 Screwdriver.

Second mobile setup is in the Jayco Motorhome.  FT857 on a 12 Foot Whip and a LDG Tuner for in motion use.

I have an FT897 and a tripod mounted screwdriver as well as an end fed antenna I can deploy when stationary.
