Member Bio

I got my license in 1997 (tech) so I could be prepared for emergency communications As a  registered nurse and a Scout, I wanted to be prepared.. In 2002, took the code test and got my general, and later in the year my extra. I am too slow with code but am practicing with NuCode and listen in on code nets sometimes to hopefully increase my speed enough to get on the air CW.

I use a Kenwood TS 2000 with an Ameritron AL-811 to a Hygain tower  when I am at home. When travelling in my Roadtrek RV, I take the Kenwood TS 2000 to a Tarheel 400A. I also have a Kenwood D74A to a MFJ1456. I’m still learning and want to try all the cool things that can be done with ham radio (D-star, DMR, moon bounce, meteor scatter, satelitte, RTTY,  slow scan TV, and talk to the ISS to name a few).

I retired from nursing in 2017 after 40 years. I travel fairly often especially to Texas to visit my Grandtwins. I live in one of the MD/DC suburbs with one of my sons.

I am a member of the Charles County Amateur Radio club, ARRl, OMISS,   ECARS, and the RV Radio Network. I am the editor for the Smoke Signals (CCARC). I’m always on the watch for articles please feel free to send me anything you’d like to let folks know.
