My name is Louis I got my HAM Radio licenses, Tech & General during the summer of 2021. I am not new to radio in general. I have had an interest in radio since I can remember.
I am currently running an ICOM 7300 radio. I was running all the bands on Shark Hamsticks, but recently I added a Fan Dipole with 20, 17, and 12 meter bands, happy to report the antenna works great! SWRs no higher than 1.3 on each of the bands, and something the 7300 can easily tune. At this time I am not using the antenna tuner of the 7300 on 40, 20, 17, and 12. On 15 meters I do need to use it because the SWRs were over 2.4.
My 40 meter dipole is now up and running. Managed to get it to resonate on the frequencies I use routinely. Lots of excellent QSOs. The solar cycle has really lit up my DX. I am still using an Ed Fong 2 meter VHF antenna, still mounted up in the attic. The Ed Fong has been flawless, good signals. I have a Yaesu 2980 2 meter rig, pairs nicely with the antenna.
Here in the Heber Valley we have 3 VHF nets, Utah VHF Society, Wasatch, and the Park City nets. In addition to these nets, I also participate in the HF OMISS, YL System, Spiderweb, and the 17 meter activity group nets. I regularly participate in the 20 and 40 OMISS nets, and when conditions permit, the 17 & 15 meter nets that take place on weekends.
My next step is an amplifier. I would like to get an 800 to 1 KW, but if I hook up with a 500 watt amp, that would be ideal.
Louis
