Greetings all!
I recently accepted a position on the board of directors of the ASPND as Logistics Engineer. It is an honor and privilege to serve in this capacity, in addition to all of the other hats I wear. They also made me a fancy aluminum business card which is awesome!
I’m an over the road truck driver and make most of my contacts from the road. I spend a lot of time on the OMISS nets, and hunting parks.
A bit about my shack(s). In the truck, I run either an IC-7000, or a TS-480HX, on a Tarheel 75A. I use a Heil headset with a foot switch for when im truly on the go. I also run an ID-5100A for Dstar and 2m/70cm. I just recently installed an ALS-500 Mobile amp that seems to be working well. The 75A won’t handle that power, so I added a Little Tarheel 2 HP for 40-10,and still use the 75a for 80 at a lower wattage. I also added an FTM-300 for APRS beaconing.
At home, I use an IC-756PRO. Currently using a Kenwood TL-922A Amp in the shack and adding on an AL-80B for backup. The Heathkit SB-200 has some issues so got retired to the garage for now. I run a Hustler 7BTV vertical (ground mounted), with 40 radials for now, with 40 more planned. I also have an Ultimax EFHW 160-10 @ 88′ long. My home shack installs/upgrades go in small phases where I get little bits done each trip home.
I got my Tech/General in October of 2022, and upgraded to Extra in March 2023. Thankfully, I have a XYL that is supportive of my hobbies. (She did approve the vert in the back yard).
I’ll try to get back and add more info and pics later.
73,
John
