Member Bio

Jerry N1TKO – Former NCS

USTNET. Member #423

Thank you for visiting my Page. I have been licensed since January 2, 1975. My original call was WB1CAX. I obtained my vanity call, N1TKO, on September 19, 2017.  Back in the 70’s I was fortunate enough to make friends with my Elmer, Don Wiggan, N1DW. I’ve lost track of Don and don’t even know if he’s still with us. Don was part of the MIT team that developed the Double Bazooka Antenna back in the 40’s. He was a very good teacher…. especially at teaching the code. With Don’s help, I was able to copy 25 WPM as a Novice. He helped me with my theory and I eventually became a General Class operator. I will always be in debt to Don….. just a great Human Being.

I grew up in Tewksbury Massachusetts. I now live in Haverhill Massachusetts right on the New Hampshire border.

I’m now retired and after taking 6 or 7 years off away from amateur radio, I’m back.

Currently running a Yaesu FT1000MP Mark V and using a Homebrew Fan Dipole

I have been busy Elmering my good friend Chuck, KC1QQM. He recently bought a IC 756 pro III. Hopfully Chuck will be joining the General Class operators on the bands. In the meantime, we have been working the Tech portion of the bands on 10 meters. Stick with it Chuck and you’ll have your General Class License before long!

My Brother George. Former New England Featherweight Champ. and Brother

Jim, Sgt. U.S.M.C

My Brother George (L) and I ran a Boxing Gym here in Massachusetts for many years. I went on to work as a Cutman, Manager and Trainer for amateur and professional boxers. for more than 25 years. I had the great pleasure of meeting with countless World Champions and the best of the best Trainers in the sport. I worked with “Irish” Micky Ward after he retired helping him at ringside with the fighters he trained. The right side photo is of my brother Sgt. Jim Colton waiting for a medivac while in Viet Nam. He and George passed away in 2022 within 2 weeks of each other. I miss them both dearly.

Rest in Peace my Brothers
