Member Bio
I have been a Ham since 1991, starting out as a Technician with the call sign N5TLQ. I upgraded to General in March 2007 and Extra class in April 2007. I applied for the vanity call of KF5F and it was effective in May 2007. I have recently become active on the HF bands and can usually be found on 3.838 most evenings. I am also active on the OMISS Nets.
I am retired from the US Air Force after 22 years. Five years was as an Electronic Technician and 17 years as a Ground Forward Air Controller (USAF TACP) for the US Army (yes, Army units have Air Force assigned). After my military service, I worked for Motorola Semiconductor in Austin, TX for 14 years moving through the ranks from Equipment Technician (Ion Implant Equipment) to Equipment Service Manager in their semiconductor production facilities. My wife and I are since retired and settled here in Cherokee Village in north central Arkansas. We have 2 sons, Jeremy KG5TUP and Ramey N5TLQ.
My equipment consist of:
For HF I use aYaesu FTDX-3000 and FTDX-1200 driving an Ameritron AL-811 amp and a Palstar antenna tuner to keep everything playing well together. Antennas are a Zero Five 43′ vertical as well as a 117′ end fed longwire at 50 feet….. I plan on putting up a 160M loop in the near future….
Yaesu FTM-100D, HRI-200 for Wires-X node and a FTM-400 for local 2m and 70cm use…..
Join in on one of the OMISS Nets and I hope to cross paths with you on the air waves…..
