Member Bio

Thanks for stopping at my page.  I was first licensed in 1977 in Charlotte, NC and given the callsign N4ASA.  No vanity call, just the luck of the draw.

I enjoy operating on HF and spend most of my HF time on 40, 20 and 10 meters.  I’m truly encouraged with the current sun spot cycle, hoping to get back to conditions similar to when I was first licensed.  While I’ve owned Yagi antennas over the years, I get particular pleasure out of making reliable contacts and good reports on wire antennas.  The main antenna these days is a SP7IDX Hex Beam for 6m, 10m 12m 15m 17m and 20m.  It is my newest antenna addition mounted on a tilt over tower up 45 feet.  My Ham Shack is in Maine and is located in a utility building where I finished the interior as my ham shack/he-shed.  The radio equipment on HF includes Flex-6500 SDR radio, Anan G2, SunSDR2 DX, ICOM 7300, FTDX-1200, FTDX-10 and Hermes Lite2+.  Amplifiers include SPE Expert 1.5K-FA, RFKit RF2K-S, PA-50 and Ameritron AL-600.  From November to May, I’m usually operating remotely from Port Saint Lucie, FL.  Most of my time on digital is spent on DMR’s QRM Network in the TechTalk room.

I worked in broadcast media as a sales and marketing executive for over 40 years but am now retired and having a grand time.  My work moved me all over the country from Charlotte, NC to Chicago, IL to Los Angeles, CA to Miami, FL to Birmingham, AL to Tampa, FL then to Manchester, NH.  Like many of my retired friends, I wonder how I ever had time to work.  Fortunately, with my hobbies being Amateur Radio, glamping in my 5th wheel camper, riding my motorcycle (picture included) fishing, building small projects, anything computers and cooking, I’m never at a loss for things to do.  My wife and I share our time between Biddeford, Maine from spring to fall and  Port Saint Lucie, FL in the winter.  Once the snow starts to fly, so do we.  Usually in early November.

Most recently, I have an interest in POTA.  I’ve activated a few times and enjoy hunting as well.  What a fun way to spend some spare time.

Thanks again for stopping by for a visit and hope to get to speak with you on the airways.
