QSL’s:  Appreciate any and all direct QSL’s and will reciprocate, SASE not expected.  LoTW is valued here – but is only uploaded if QRZ webpage indicates it is used. I usually log all contacts on QRZ logbook.  For eQSL the intent is to always respond – but not often originated.

Memberships:

DXCC:   The most meaningful award to me:  ARRL DXCC.  All, so far, have been 40 meters and all “phone” (SSB).  LoTW certainly helped with the QSL confirmations, particularly the rare ones.
WAS awards:  OK maybe overkill!….OMISS, ARRL, eQSL, and QRZ….but all 50 are important to me….and so far these were all on 40 meters.

13 Colonies Certificate:  This has been great fun and recommend for 4th of July period.  “Clean Sweep” for six years 2018 – 23…. all 13 colonies + bonus stations (WM3PEN and GB13COL).  But couldn’t find French station on 40m SSB this year.  England, GB13COL had been very consistent here…very dedicated.

Quick Bio:  Early and up to high school in Louisville, Ky.  Licensed in 1956 as KN4HZF (Novice Class), age 14.  Undergraduate at small all-male northern Indiana university, then graduate school to a warmer climate in Gainesville, Fl, at U of F. Graduate research with specialization in Radio Astronomy, specifically the decametric (that’s HF!) radiation from planet Jupiter.  All degrees in Physics.  But then wonderful and rewarding work history in Orlando (Martin Marietta), Washington, DC, area at COMSAT, Intelsat, Federal Gvt, WorldSpace/XM Radio, and several other satellite and wireless related businesses.

Married Winter Park, FL, 1972.  Best Man and remaining good friend was (and is) AA4GG.  52nd anniversary occurred this year:  April 8, 2024.  Proud parents of five children and fifteen grandchildren. (Must be Catholic!).

After retirement in 2014, only re-active as of late 2016. Currently limited by antennas to 40m and 20m, which are favorites in any case.  Enjoy CW but as any of my contacts know am quite rusty and need to reacquire speed (and accuracy!).  Sixty-five years ago it was all straight key….J38 still with me…..but now trying to get comfortable with Vibroplex/Bengali keys into an electronic keyer.  On SSB, using Heil Pro-7 headset/mike.

Station Details: On air amplifier configuration can be one of the following.  Will specify which one in QSL card …. or ask during QSO…

What this means in practice….

A really great amplifier…and also the LP-700…..this power into a dummy load (Ameritron ADL-2500).

My original license….

(To anticipate your comment and to answer one already received:  In those days, circa 1956, the FCC returned your original Novice license (KN4HZF) marked “CANCELLED” when you made General class)

My most valued QSL card.  First contact 10 March 1956 with Bill Grieb (SK), W4BEJ (Bacon, Eggs, and Jelly).  Bill was a patient, knowledgeable, and generous Elmer…..I owe a lot to him as he taught and spurred my interest in all things radio.  Helped get me on the air with my own homebrew 6L6, maybe 35 watts, into a cloudburner.  I’ve noted that his call has been adopted by the Lincoln Trail Amateur Radio Club.   May he Rest In Peace.
