Member Bio

Thanks for looking at my QRZ page.

While in college, my military career started with enlisting and getting commissioned in the Connecticut Air National Guard.  I eventually was activated and transferred to the Pentagon and the rest is history.  I retired from the Air Force after 44 years serving in numerous positions including Wing Intelligence Officer, Chief of Environmental Programs for the Air National Guard, Acting Director of Environmental Quality for HQ USAF and ending my career with five years in Homeland Security (Domestic Operations).  I also have over 35 years in the fire service as a firefighter/Emergency Medical Technician.  I am a Life Member and Past President of Waldorf MD VFD, Past President and currently serve as Vice President and Department Safety Officer of the Ocean Pines Volunteer Fire Department (MD).  I am also an instructor for the University of Maryland Fire and Rescue Institute.  As a lifelong musician, I play bass guitar with the Still Rockin’ oldies group and dabble in guitar, drums and keyboard.  When I’m not on the radio you might find me doing session work at my son Matt’s recording studio – Cozy Recordings and Audio in Berlin MD.

As far as additional hobbies, I have always been a “car guy”.  I’ve owned and done restoration work on Pontiac GTOs and Chevrolet Corvettes.  Currently I cruise in my 2014 Corvette Stingray.  I also used to autocross 80, 82, and 86 Mazda RX-7s. Having grown up on the New York, New Haven and Hartford Railroad line (where my Great Grandfather worked), Ive always been fascinated with trains and model the line in HO.

Regarding Amateur Radio, I held a novice license in the 1970’s.  Unfortunately, life got in the way.  When the pandemic hit, I achieved a long term goal of earning my Technician, General, and Amateur Extra Class licenses.  Currently, my less than extensive equipment list includes an ICOM 7300, ICOM 2100 and an Anytone 878.  Living in a HOA, my antenna options are somewhat limited.  I have a TN Engineering TN-07 all band flagpole antenna with a 100′ wire making it an inverted “L”.  I have a J-Pole for 2m/70cm. I’m currently working on a dipole antenna hidden in my ridge vent. I enjoy nets including the Woodpecker net (7.242 @ 0800 daily), The Friendly Bunch (3.919 from 2000-2300 daily), ECARS #30783 (7.255 0800-1300) and SCARS #13907 (7.251 0800-1300)

I’m a member of the Worcester Radio Group and enjoy all aspects of the hobby.  I am also a VE with our club VE group.  I still have a lot to learn…

Thanks for checking out my page.
