Member Bio

Origionally licensed as WA4CMP in the 1970’s and active on 2mtr for several years, the life got in the way of Ham radio.  During the active period I served as president of the Sandy Valley Amateur Radio Association.During the 1977 floods I served as net control for an emergency net into Martin County Ky working with the Pentagon along with the NationGuard in KY and WV for medivac opertations, as well as co-ordinating emercgency traffic into and out of the area.

In 2021 looking at retirement approaching, my inteest returned to ham radio, getting my license as KO4KWO, but thinking nestalgically requested my old call sign.  Disappointement set in as I discoveder that 2 mtrs was nearly dead and not having much experience with hf  except for special event stations with JOTA when I was involved with scouting, I was becomming disenchanted.  Going to a TARA Hamfest I purchased a uBITX to take a shot at HF without putting much money into it.  I found some scrap wire lying around and made a dipole and put it one the air.

After learning the hard way that a stereo headphone plug would short out the amplifier in the uBITX, I have upgraded to an Icom Ic 7300
